Everyday Smoothie

At a recent Fort Worth Blue Zones Project cooking demo I mentioned my daily smoothie and had several requests for the recipe. It has several of the daily checklist items from the book, How Not To Die, by Michael Greger, and is very filling. I drink one every morning with my breakfast of oatmeal, cereal, or toast.

Recipe Ingredients

First of all, check if you have all the necessary ingredients for this recipe. Pay attention to the quantities!
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen berry mix
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1 handful spinach
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

Recipe Instructions

Next, follow the steps to finalize your dish and finally be able to enjoy it!
  1. Place almond milk, frozen banana, berries, ice cubes, spinach, flax seeds, chia seeds, cinnamon and turmeric in the blender. Blend on medium speed until mixture comes together, then raise speed to high until thoroughly blended. I keep a bag of fresh baby spinach leaves in the freezer next to the frozen fruit. The leaves freeze but stay separate which makes it easy to grab a handful. I also keep the flax seeds and chia seeds in the same spot in the freezer, so everything is handy.
